After we visited Au Train Falls, a quick drive took us to our next campground – Munising Tourist Park– which is located right on Lake Superior in the town of Munising, MI.

Of course the first thing we did was head to the beach so Sid could take a little dip and I could stretch my legs and take in the view.

This was our first time ever at Lake Superior, and Sid didn’t hold back when he hit the water. He even dunked his entire face! Although he was disappointed to find that the hundreds of small dark objects under the water’s surface that he was bobbing for were small rocks and not treats.

The beach was very relaxing, especially when the dune grasses swayed in the breeze.

After checking out the beach, it was time to set up our camp.

I was feeling a little hungry so I made a peanut butter and banana sandwich. Sid wanted to know where his sandwich was.

Since we had arrived at the campground so early in the day, I had plenty of time to get a roaring campfire going which helped set the mood.

While we sat by the campfire, I made some popcorn on our little Coleman butane stove. It actually worked really well! Sid was pleased to know he would be partaking in the noshing this time.

Sid kept watch from his lookout post in the van anytime I had to use the restroom at the bathhouse.

The sunset that evening was truly magnificent.

The next morning, we had to sleep in and eat breakfast inside the van because of something we’ll tell you about in Part 3…

Ahoy everyone! Sid and I have finally returned from our week-long camping and road-trip adventure around Lake Michigan which I’ve dubbed Have Pug, Will Travel. This is Part 1 of our story of the trip; we hope you enjoy it.

For this adventure, I had originally considered renting a small RV. But after looking at the costs involved and also the size of an RV, even a small one, it was just overkill for one human and one pug. So I ended up renting a Ford Transit Connect cargo van because it provided ample room for sleeping and storage in the rear cargo area yet was as easy to drive as a normal car. So on the first day of the trip, I loaded loaded up the van with our camping gear, food, pug supplies, and mostly importantly: the pug.

Welcome to our tiny home for the next week!

We left Chicago on September 8th and made our way north through Wisconsin, into Michigan, and up to the charming Gladstone Bay Campground located in the small town of Gladstone.

The campground was right on the shore of Little Bay de Noc, which is a bay of Lake Michigan. Our site was just a short walk away from the beach and as soon as Sid caught site of the water, he just had to take a little dip.

At one edge of the beach was a cute little boardwalk that snaked along the water’s edge through an area with lots of tall grasses and plants.

Sid liked the boardwalk so much he decided it would be the perfect place to take a little nap in the sun.

The next morning we got up and had some breakfast while the sun was still pretty low in the sky.

After breakfast and another visit to the beach, we got on the road and headed further north towards Lake Superior. Along the way, we stopped off at Au Train Falls. It was a lovely sight!

In less than a week, Sid and I will be setting forth on a week-long epic camping trip all the way around Lake Michigan. I’ve been busy gathering up all the camping supplies and paraphernalia we’ll need so I’ve left all the route-planning in Sid’s capable paws.

Although, I took a quick peak at the route thus far, and there seem to be way more stops at pet supply stores than state parks.

Hmmmm, might need to just keep him in charge of something he’s more qualified to do: meal planning.

Hello to all my PSP’s (Pug Slope Pals)! It’s Sid with you today to close out the week and carry you into the weekend.

I hope everyone has been having a great summer so far and hasn’t been sweltering from the heat. The Chicago summer has been pretty mild so far so I’ve been able to go on a few long walks to the lakefront.

The first time my dad and I strolled to the lakefront this season, my dad brought along the camera and attempted to shoot some video of me enjoying the huge waves, the sand, and the sun. So without further ado:

OK, I know you’ve been just DYING TO KNOW what was on the other side of that fountain that I wrote about earlier this week.

Well, it was none other than Minnie and Max, the celebrity head-tilting pug pair, along with three-dozen or so of their flat-faced fans.

I immediately hopped over the fountain to say hi to Minnie and Max and all the other pugs. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen this many curly tails in one place!

I even ran into my fellow Chicago friends Violet and Timmy! If you remember, I met them last summer on the Chicago Canine Cruise. We talked shop about manipulating our humans to get more treats and how to avoid walks when it’s raining outside.

They also informed me that Minnie and Max were in town for the Milwaukee Pug Fest. Violet and Timmy were planning to caravan up there along with them after this pug party.

When this many pugs get together there is bound to be some games of bitey-face going on!

I didn’t get an individual photo with Minnie and Max but I did get in the massive group shot. I’m near the middle leaning to one side (posing tip: it makes you look cooler when you lean to one side and stare off into the distance). Also, this represents only about HALF the pugs that attended the party.

I had such a crazy fun time! I was totally wiped out by the time the party wrapped up and I slept the whole train ride home. Hope to see and sniff all these lovely pug faces again soon!

Hey there all you adorable denizens of Pug Slope, USA. Sid here with you today and boy do I have an adventure to tell you about!

On Saturday, my dad got me up earlier than usual and frantically gathered up all my day-trip accessories: red travel bag, portable water dish, stylish bandana, and the most important thing – treats. Before I knew it, we were on the El train rumbling our way downtown.

We arrived at this quaint little dog park in Lake Shore East Park. Not only was it filled with tons of shade-providing trees and bumpy hills with fake turf but there was a magnificent stone water fountain right in the middle of the dog park!

As you know, I’m totally obsessed with water, so I just HAD to check this thing out up close.

After pouring into the main reservoir, the water flowed into a little stream that snaked through the dog park. All the pups enjoyed getting a cool, clean drink from the stream. As usual, I preferred to play in it.

I couldn’t believe my luck when I looked up and saw a fellow pug taking a drink right from the stream!

And then another pug joined us. And then ANOTHER! The pugs seemed to be multiplying from the other side of the fountain. Was there some kind of cloning machine over there?

I stood up on my hind legs to peer over the fountain and get a closer look…

Guys, you are NOT GOING TO BELIEVE WHAT I SAW… (to be continued)

Hi, my wonderful friends!

The other day I was out for a stroll though a little neighborhood park in Andersonville that I frequently enjoy when I came across a very welcome sign of Spring.

My dad told me the bright brilliant flowers were crocuses, and they are usually the second sign of Spring’s approach (the first being the Robins, and they’ve already been back for a couple weeks now).

I got up really close to the flowers to smell them and then all of a sudden one was in mouth and I was chewing it.

What did you expect? You can’t fight your instincts, right?

Mmmmmmm. Spring.
