Who Stole My Snuggie?

This recent spell of cold weather in Pug Slope has kept us from taking any new exciting photos of everyone’s favorite little turkey. Gone are the long afternoons of meandering through Prospect Park. On Sid’s walks he now stays strictly to the “business” at hand (can I get a rimshot?). He’s very content to curl up indoors and since his Snuggie apparently wasn’t cutting it, he decided to commandeer Jenn’s.

Yes, he did take over the whole darn thing.

He’s also taken to popping up into our bed in the middle of the night – although we can’t complain. Since the radiators in the apartment churn out too much heat (and the one in the bedroom is about 6 inches from my head) we often turn off the one in the bedroom at night. So when it does get a little chilly, what folks commonly refer to as a “One Dog Night”, Sid fits the role perfectly.

Thumbs Up

America’s Next Top Puggle

Here at Pug Slope we like to keep our masthead up-to-date with the seasons. With all this snow on the ground, we realized it was high time to say sayōnara to the old “Sid with Fallen Leaves” image and kon’nichiwa to a new “Sid with Fallen Snow” banner.

This, of course, required a photo shoot.

As any disciple of Tyra knows, a top model must be prepared to pose in a bathing suit in the dead of winter. Luckily for Sid, we haven’t yet added a bathing suit to his pug wardrobe; we let him wear his red hoodie and his blue cape instead.

We plopped Sid on top of a snow bank so we could get some of our street’s amazing brownstones in the shot, and, I must say, the new Pug Slope banner turned out great. Don’t you agree?  You should let Brian know how much you love it in the comments section – you’ll make his day.

Here are some of our favorite outtakes from today’s shoot:

Snow Pug

Since Sid was born and raised in Southern California, he has never seen snow.  So, of course, our first snowfall of our first winter in Park Slope was a blizzard.

Typical.

Our neighborhood was slammed with over two feet of snow.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.  I know what all of you Upstate / Mid-western folks with your “lake-effect” snow storms are thinking.  But regardless of whether or not you think we’re wimps, our neighborhood went from “Dry as the Sahara” to “Arctic Expedition” in about 36 hours.  I’ve got photographic evidence to prove it:

That’s a lot of snow!

We had no idea how Sid would react to the snow; he hates the rain and he refuses to walk though puddles, so we were pretty much expecting the worse.  Also, we were advised that he should wear these rubber balloons on his feet to protect him from all of the salt that’s being tossed about on the sidewalks.

Happy Holidays

Merry Christmas

Happy Holidays from Sid, Jenn, and Brian!

Old Man Winter

Sid in his Snuggie

Break out the pug Snuggie – Winter has finally arrived. There was a light dusting of snow last night that stuck to the trees and the ground, where it remained until this morning. When I took Sid for his morning walk in Prospect Park, he had his first experience with Ol’ Man Winter. On our usual path there is a low point where a large puddle of water usually collects after a storm. Today the puddle was topped with a thin layer of ice.

Sid approached the slippery surface with curiosity and caution, but as soon as he stepped on it, the ice began cracking. Not knowing what to do he sped up and started breaking more ice. Luckily the water was only about half an inch deep so he just ended up confused by the whole situation.

We are still really looking forward to his first experience with some real snow. Looks like that moment may be right around the corner.

Cape Weather

Yesterday, we experienced our first flurries of the year and Sid experienced his first flurries ever. Don’t worry, even though Sid was born and bred in Southern California, he has plenty of winter outerwear. Above, he is “getting down” in his blue fleece cape. He’s also got a red fleece jumper, a brown puffy coat, and some Christmas sweaters, which I’m sure he’ll be sporting for you in the next couple weeks.

The Christmas tree is up, the radiator is scorching, the pug is bundled – bring on the snow!
