Snow Pug

Since Sid was born and raised in Southern California, he has never seen snow.  So, of course, our first snowfall of our first winter in Park Slope was a blizzard.

Typical.

Our neighborhood was slammed with over two feet of snow.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.  I know what all of you Upstate / Mid-western folks with your “lake-effect” snow storms are thinking.  But regardless of whether or not you think we’re wimps, our neighborhood went from “Dry as the Sahara” to “Arctic Expedition” in about 36 hours.  I’ve got photographic evidence to prove it:

December 27th:

That’s a lot of snow!

We had no idea how Sid would react to the snow; he hates the rain and he refuses to walk though puddles, so we were pretty much expecting the worse.  Also, we were advised that he should wear these rubber balloons on his feet to protect him from all of the salt that’s being tossed about on the sidewalks.

Old Man Winter

Sid in his Snuggie

Break out the pug Snuggie – Winter has finally arrived. There was a light dusting of snow last night that stuck to the trees and the ground, where it remained until this morning. When I took Sid for his morning walk in Prospect Park, he had his first experience with Ol’ Man Winter. On our usual path there is a low point where a large puddle of water usually collects after a storm. Today the puddle was topped with a thin layer of ice.

Sid approached the slippery surface with curiosity and caution, but as soon as he stepped on it, the ice began cracking. Not knowing what to do he sped up and started breaking more ice. Luckily the water was only about half an inch deep so he just ended up confused by the whole situation.

We are still really looking forward to his first experience with some real snow. Looks like that moment may be right around the corner.

Family Day at Prospect Park

On Sunday, we were again greeted by amazing un-seasonably-warm weather for November (had we really left California?) so Prospect Park seemed the logical destination.

Ah...Prospect Park

We missed Jenn the last time Sid and I went to the park but this time the entire Demski crew was ready for a morning stroll. Sid insisted he wear his shark sweatshirt so that he’d look cool. Jenn donned her dark Ray-Ban sunglasses. Not requiring any accessory to increase coolness, I just went as is.

Saturday in the Park

This Saturday proved to be the ideal fall day, so Sid and I shed the confines of our tiny apartment and set out for a stroll through Prospect Park.

After sauntering across the long meadow and nethermead, we eventually found our way to the Boat House which looked the perfect place for a pug photo shoot.

Law and Order: Spoiled Pugs Unit

On Saturday, October 9th, Siddhartha Lamont Sanchez Demski was found in his Park Slope walk-up, SPOILED beyond the legal limits set by the legislators of these five boroughs.

Let the evidence show that on that day, Grammy Grace came down for a visit with the sole intention of showering Mr. Sid with treats, toys, and snuggles.

Exhibit A –  Two (2) LARGE boxes of delicious, all-natural, organic, hypo-allergenic, wheat-free, meat-free, crunchy dog treats:

Exhibit B – A brand-new, seasonally-appropriate plush toy:

Exhibit C – A photo of Siddhartha with Grammy Grace at the Prospect Park Dog Beach:

Would a pug whose grammy wasn’t spoiling him with massive quantities of delicious treats and brand new plush toys choose to stand on a bench with her over playing in the water? Would he?!

(It’s at this point that the Assistant District Attorney realizes his case isn’t as air-tight as it should be.  He calls for a recess, gathers his detectives, and shouts, “I need more evidence!”  Then Benson and Stabler, or Goren and Eames, or Lennie Briscoe and whoever his partner is in whichever season’s rerun you’re watching, go back over the case and stumble upon the key piece of the puzzle, making a conviction inevitable)

Ladies and gentlemen of the court,

What a Pug Loves

After three days of rain and humidity, we woke up Wednesday morning to a clear blue sky. Brian came along on Sid’s morning walk so he could take advantage of the beautiful day.

Sid loves walking with his dad:

No, really, he does:

Pug-nic in the Park!

Last Saturday we woke up and realized that for the first time since we’d arrived in Brooklyn we had absolutely no errands to run.  No trips to Ikea out in Red Hook.  No treks up to the Container Store near Union Square.  No crowded subway rides to the TriBeCa Bed Bath and Beyond.

So what to do?  Picnic in the park, of course!
