Pug Malfunction

Okay, a little backstory: Sid hates going for walks.  Unlike most dogs, who tend to get super excited when they see their leash, Sid suddenly becomes OH SO EXHAUSTED when we get out his walking gear.  It’s quite the act; there’s a lot of dramatic yawning and and sighing involved.  By the time we’re done strapping on his harness he’s flopping around like a wet noodle*.  We often need to carry him out the door because he won’t stand on his own legs.  For real, we’ll pick him up from his bed and put his feet on the floor, and his legs just collapse, over and over.  It’s like he thinks he can fool us into believing his skeletal system somehow disappeared while we were putting on his collar.

ANYWAY.

It was a little brisk outside the other night, so we wanted to put a tee-shirt on him for his evening walk.  This is as far as we got:

It’s All Downhill From Here

I don’t know what inspired this…The fact that Brian and I were both immediately on board for this experiment without any hesitation whatsoever makes me wonder if perhaps Sid is chanting suggestive mantras into our ears while we sleep:  “You will feed me straight from the peanut butter jar.  You will feed me straight from the peanut butter jar.  You will feed me straight…” and so on and so on.

In our defense, the peanut butter jar was basically empty.  We just needed some way to clean out those last morsels…you know, so we could toss it in the recycling.  I mean, why waste water when there’s a pug on hand who will be more than happy to lick that jar clean, right? Water is a precious and limited commodity, but a pug’s appetite for peanut butter is renewable and unrelenting. We did this for the planet, people.  We did it for YOU.  Okay? OKAY?  *hangs head in shame*

Day 12: Sid sends out a special holiday greeting.

Day 13: Sid takes a stand against leashes.

Bath Time With Sid

Sid loves baths. I mean really loves baths. Once he gets soaped up he seems to enter some zen state of mind. I don’t know if it’s the soap suds or the chest rubs, but his usual pug purring becomes amplified and he is barely be able to hold his head up. Even though we have to leave his special medicated allergy shampoo on him for 10 minutes, he doesn’t seem to mind. It just gives him more time to meditate.

Witness Sid’s entrance into bath zen:
