A Barking Problem?!
Guys, I’m a little peeved today so I need to vent to my fellow pug brothers and sisters.
So, I like to bark a little bit when my human is away – so what? You guys all do that, too, right? Well, my dad said that our neighbors mentioned the barking to him yesterday and now he says I have a “barking problem”.
If anything, the “problem” is that I don’t get to bark enough. Like when that monstrous garbage truck comes rolling up the alley every Wednesday. I mean, how else is it gonna know to stop at our building if I don’t signal it via barking?!
Anyway, he started yammering on about “getting kicked out of the apartment” and “homeless” this and that. I basically tuned out until I head the words “Dog Appeasing Pheromones”. So dad, you are planning to make me stop barking with DOG PERFUME? C’mon.
Well, the next thing you know he orders a D.A.P. Diffuser online because the neighbor that mentioned the barking told my dad that a friend of hers used it and it helped with her dog’s separation anxiety. SEPARATION ANXIETY?! I’m actually the least stressed when I’m home alone because its the time when I get to do exactly what I want to do. Also, I’m 7 puggin’ years old – technically I’m more of an adult than you are, dad!
Well, anyway, I don’t know what this dog perfume is supposed to do exactly but I hope it doesn’t like hypnotize me or anything. Have any of you guys ever tried this D.A.P. stuff? I read some of the reviews on Amazon and some people LOOOOVE the stuff, others totally thing it’s a SCAM.
Well, whatever it does, there’s no way it’s going to curb my baby carrot obsession. I can guarantee that!

We’ve never heard of the non-barking dog perfume Sid, and quite frankly, you need to lay some charm on that neighbor. You’re too handsome to have people “complain” about some silly barking.

we used it when we got Weasley and while we cant say it worked for sure his transition went smoothly. It might help. As for someone complaining, hmmmph dont they know you are a star

Sorry we have no experience with that stuff. Luckily we don’t have neighbors close enough to hear us bark when we are home alone in the house. Turn on the charm Sid! How can they resist that handsome pug mug!

DAP can definitely work for some dogs. We used it for a few years to help fosters transition easier. A few tips though. It can take a while to work so be patient. Buy the refills on Amazon in bulk. Much cheaper. And the diffuser unit stops working after 6 months or so. Be prepared to replace that.
If DAP isn’t doing it for you, try a few other things. Peace and Quiet spray from The Blissful Dog can work but it only works short term for Tallulah. And it smells girly.
We just started using two other things here too. Tallulah is very anxious although it’s not separation anxiety. She gets Stress Free Calmplex from Springtime Inc. She can get worked up over street noise or the cats fighting. Isabelle takes Quiet Moments to calm her down before nail trims. So far we’ve only used it once. It took the edge off so she didn’t work herself into a fit and pass out, but she was still somewhat fiesty.
There’s also music you can buy that is supposed to be calming for dogs. Classical music has been proven to lower anxiety levels in shelters. That may help and the radio is free! We have some special cds that we used with a foster with severe anxiety. No complaints from the neighbors but we live in a house with a big yard too.
Good luck. Apartment living can be tough for dogs with a lot to say.

Don’t worry, Sid. I have similar problems. I am not a barker but I keep jumping up and down from the dining table, and my downstairs neighbor keeps complaining to the apartment people! So, although I am not offering any solutions, I am venting with you!

Oh no! Did Donald get you in trouble? I know he added quite a bit of noise to the apartment when we stayed. Looks like SFPs have lots of good advice. I’d try the charm too. I bet they’ll just melt and become puddy in your paws.
Love,
Christy
PS. Dying over these pics. Very dashing.
PPS. Per your comment, Donald uses Sebolux shampoo.
